Dr. Benak was born in Southern California. He is a graduate of the University of South Alabama where he received a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in June, 1986. He then completed a Pediatric Residency program at Children’s Hospital in Birmingham and joined Dothan Pediatric Clinic in the summer of 1989. Currently, he is one of nine physicians who are Shareholders of the practice.
Dr. Benak is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics. He serves as Laboratory Director for each of the full-service labs of Dothan Pediatric Healthcare Network.
He received the distinguished Master Pediatrician award from Children’s Hospital in 2001. Since 1991, this award has been bestowed annually to a pediatrician in practice for at least ten years, nominated by a former recipient and voted on by his peers for contributing greatly to quality of life for children in Alabama. He is a member of the Alabama Academy of Pediatrics, Medical Association of the State of Alabama, and Houston County Medical Society.
