William R. Barron, JR, MD, FAAP

    Provider's Bio

    Dr. Barron is a graduate of Auburn University where he received a Bachelor of Science, Industrial Engineering. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. After completing a three-year Pediatric Residency program at Children’s Hospital in Birmingham, Dr. Barron joined Dothan Pediatric Clinic – where he has practiced for over three decades.

    Dr. Barron is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and is a member of the American Medical Association, Alabama Academy of Pediatrics, Medical Association of the State of Alabama and Houston County Medical Society.

    He received the distinguished Master Pediatrician award from Children’s Hospital in 1995. Since 1991, this award has been bestowed annually to a pediatrician in practice for at least ten years, nominated by a former recipient and voted on by his peers for contributing greatly to quality of life for children in Alabama. In 2014, Dr. Barron was honored with the Children’s of Alabama Wallace Alexander Clyde Distinguished Service Award for Excellence in Pediatrics. This award recognizes outstanding physicians who have devoted a lifetime of service to children and their families; recipients are chosen by a select committee of leaders in the field of pediatrics. Dr. Barron has served as Chief of Staff and Chief of Pediatrics at Flowers Hospital and as President of Medical Staff and Chairman of the Pediatric Committee at SAMC.

 

 

Robert J. Benak, MD, FAAP

    Dr. Benak was born in Southern California. He is a graduate of the University of South Alabama where he received a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in June, 1986. He then completed a Pediatric Residency program at Children’s Hospital in Birmingham and joined Dothan Pediatric Clinic in the summer of 1989.

    Dr. Benak is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics. He serves as Laboratory Director for each of the full-service labs of Dothan Pediatric Healthcare Network.

    He received the distinguished Master Pediatrician award from Children’s Hospital in 2001. Since 1991, this award has been bestowed annually to a pediatrician in practice for at least ten years, nominated by a former recipient and voted on by his peers for contributing greatly to quality of life for children in Alabama. Michael J. Ramsey, MD, FAAP

    Dr. Ramsey was born in Huntington, West Virginia. He is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Auburn University where he received a Bachelor of Science, German and Pre-Med Studies. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. After completing a three-year Pediatric Residency program at Children’s Hospital in Birmingham, Dr. Ramsey joined Dothan Pediatric Clinic.

    Dr. Ramsey is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics. He currently serves as the president of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Alabama Chapter. He is actively involved in political issues that affect the healthcare of children in Alabama. He is a member of the Medical Association of the State of Alabama and Houston County Medical Society.

    In 2009, Dr. Ramsey received the distinguished Master Pediatrician award form Children’s Hospital. Since 1991, this award has been bestowed annually to a pediatrician in practice for at least ten years, nominated by a former recipient and voted on by his peers for contributing greatly to quality of life for children in Alabama.

 

 

Michelle S. Freeman, MD, FAAP

    Dr. Freeman was born in Jacksonville, Florida and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. She is a Cum Laude graduate of Auburn University where she received a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology. She earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She then completed a three-year Pediatric Residency program at Children’s Hospital in Birmingham. In the fall of 1999, Dr. Freeman joined Dothan Pediatric Clinic where she has served as the Reach Out and Read Director since 2003.

    Dr. Freeman is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics. She is a member of the Alabama Academy of Pediatrics and has previously served as the organization’s Area 5 Representative. She also holds membership in the Medical Association of the State of Alabama and Houston County Medical Society. Dr. Freeman has served on the Pharmacy and Therapeutic Committee for Alabama Medicaid.

 

 

Jeffrey M. Tamburin, MD, FAAP

    Dr. Tamburin was born in Passaic, New Jersey. He is a Cum Laude graduate of Tulane University where he received a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. Dr. Tamburin earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in June, 1999. He then completed a three-year Pediatric Residency program at Children’s Hospital in Birmingham where he was recognized for excellence in clinical performance. In the summer of 2002, Dr. Tamburin joined Dothan Pediatric Clinic.

    Dr. Tamburin is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics. As a member of the Alabama Academy of Pediatrics, he served as the organization’s District Representative (2005-2009) and is the current State Legislative Chair (since 2009). He is also a member of the American Medical Association, Medical Association of the State of Alabama and Houston County Medical Society. Dr. Tamburin enjoys baseball, exercising, and traveling with his wife, Dr. Laura Tamburin, and their children: Andrew, Christopher and Meghan.

 

 

Mark F. Strassburg, MD, FAAP

    Dr. Strassburg was born in Charlottesville, Virginia. He is a Cum Laude graduate of the University of South Carolina where he received a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 1993. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of South Carolina, School of Medicine, in May, 1997. He then completed a three-year Pediatric Residency program at the University of Tennessee, Memphis, in 2000. As a young pediatrician, Dr. Strassburg practiced medicine in the United States Navy for four years. During the next five years, he practiced pediatric medicine in small southern towns. He joined Dothan Pediatric Clinic in February 2009.

    Dr. Strassburg has been certified in general pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics since 2000. He is a proud member of the Alabama Academy of Pediatrics, the Medical Association of the State of Alabama and the Houston County Medical Society. Dr. Strassburg enjoys reading, playing golf and video games, and spending time with his wife, Sonya, and swimming with their children Amber, Sarah, Aubrey and Landon.

 

 

Allison Walker, DO, FAAP

    Dr. Allison E. Walker was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. She is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Birmingham-Southern College, Birmingham, Alabama, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology-Psychology in 2007. Dr. Walker earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences, Kansas City, Missouri in May, 2012. In 2015, she completed a three-year Pediatric Residency program at University of Alabama at Birmingham and joined Dothan Pediatric Clinic in August of that year.

    Dr. Walker is certified by the American Academy of Pediatrics and is a member of the Alabama chapter. She and her husband, Homer, live in Dothan with their children: Kaylee Beth, Riley, and Katherine. She enjoys spending time with her family at the park and the zoo as well as watching movies and exercising.

 

 

Sesi Dozunmnu-Ogunbi, MD, FAAP

    Dr. Ogunbi was born in Ibadan, Nigeria. She earned a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Lagos, College of Medicine, Lagos, Nigeria, in 1986. She moved to Montgomery, Alabama in 1997. Dr. Ogunbi completed a Pediatric Internship at the University of South Alabama, Mobile, and a Fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology/Nutrition at Emory University, Atlanta.

    She is certified in general pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics and certified in Pediatric Gastroenterology. She provides monthly pediatric gastroenterology patient care at Dothan Pediatric Clinic (since 2006). She is a member of the North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (NASPGHAN). She serves on the current Board of Directors for the International Committee of NASPGHAN. Dr. Ogunbi is a member of the Alabama Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

    She was honored as a Woman Who Provides Exceptional Community Service: Health and Human Services by the Montgomery Chapter of The Links, Incorporated (2012). Dr. Ogunbi also serves as Chair of Pediatrics at Baptist South Hospital, Montgomery (2013-2014); Vice Chair (2011-2012). She enjoys antique shopping and spending time with her family.

 

 

Joanna A. McKinley, MD, FAAP

    Dr. McKinley was born and raised in Dothan, Alabama. She is a graduate of the University of South Alabama where she received a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science in 1997. She earned her Doctor of Medicine degree with Research Honors from the University of South Alabama in May 2002. She then completed a Pediatric Internship program at University of Alabama at Birmingham and a Pediatric Residency program at University of Mississippi Medical Center, Jackson, Mississippi.

    Dr. McKinley has been certified in general pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics since 2005. Before joining Dothan Pediatric Clinic in the fall of 2008, Dr. McKinley was a pediatrician in Jackson, Mississippi and Birmingham, Alabama.

    Dr. McKinley received the Southern Society for Pediatric Research Trainee Travel Award (1998) and America’s Top Pediatrician Award (2008). She is a proud member of the Alabama Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the medical Association of the State of Alabama and the Houston County Medical Society. Dr. McKinley enjoys reading, spending time with her family, baseball (particularly the Atlanta Braves), football and working in her flowerbeds.

 

 

Kristine Sawyer, MD

    Dr. Kristine C. Sawyer was born in Greenfield, Massachusetts. Her father was an aerospace medicine physician in the U.S. Army, so she moved frequently growing up. Her family settled in Enterprise during Dr. Sawyer’s high school years.

    She is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 2009. Dr. Sawyer earned her Doctor of Medicine degree, with a Masters in Public Health, from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine and School of Public Health in 2014.

    In 2017, she completed a three-year Pediatric Residency program at University of Alabama at Birmingham. She is a proud member of the Alabama Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Medical Association.

    Dr. Sawyer and her husband, Dr. Andrew Sawyer will make their home in Dothan. In her free time, she likes to hike, camp, wakeboard, read, travel, and frolic with their Golden Retriever, Nora.

 

 

Jennifer Stinson, MD, FAAP

    Dr. Jennifer Stinson was born in Birmingham and raised just north of Birmingham in Pinson, Alabama.

    She is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish, 1993. Dr. Stinson earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, 1997.

    Dr. Stinson completed a three-year Pediatric Residency program at University of Alabama at Birmingham and Children’s of Alabama. After residency, she worked at private practices in Enterprise, Alabama, McDowell, Kentucky, and Pensacola, Florida. She joined Dothan Pediatric Healthcare Network in September practicing primarily at Ozark Pediatric Clinic. Dr. Stinson is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics.

    She and her husband, Slade, will make their home in Enterprise. They have two children: Solomon and Zachary. In her free time, Dr. Stinson enjoys baseball games, the beach, and spending time with her family.

 

 

Amy Marshall, CRNP

    Amy Marshall was born in Richmond, Virginia. She is a graduate of Atlantic Christian College, Wilson, North Carolina where she received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She earned a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of South Alabama in 2003. During her studies, Amy worked as a Registered Nurse in the cardiac department at Flowers Hospital. Her advanced training also includes cardiac rehab at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, Albany, Georgia; and nursing in the neurology department at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville, North Carolina.

    Amy is licensed as a registered nurse by the Alabama Board of Nursing and certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. She is authorized for Advanced Practice Nursing by the Alabama Board of Nursing and approved for Collaborative Practice with Jeffery M. Tamburin, M.D. she joined Dothan Pediatric Clinic providing pediatric patient care in the summer of 2004. Amy enjoys encouraging parents and teaching pediatric patients how to live in a healthy way, while they remind her to enjoy the simple pleasures in life. Amy enjoys spending time with her husband, David, and spending time in Auburn with their daughter, Sarah. She also enjoys playing the piano and listening to all genres of music.

 

 

Karen Wakefield, CPNP

    Karen Wakefield was born in Flint, Michigan. She is a graduate of Eastern New Mexico University, Portales, New Mexico where she received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She earned her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Phoenix, Albuquerque, New Mexico and her Post-Masters Certificate in Nursing, Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, from the University of South Alabama, Mobile. During her studies, Karen worked as a Registered Nurse Supervisor at BCA Medical Associates, Roswell, New Mexico; served as a sexual assault nurse examiner in Roswell, New Mexico; worked as a Registered Nurse in the newborn nursery at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center, Roswell, New Mexico; and worked as a Registered Nurse at Family Health Clinic, Dothan, Alabama.

    Karen is licensed as a registered nurse by the Alabama Board of Nursing and certified as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, Primary Care, by the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board. She is authorized for Advanced Practice Nursing by the Alabama Board of Nursing and approved for Collaborative Practice with Kenneth C. Brown, M.D. Karen joined Dothan Pediatric Clinic providing pediatric patient care in January, 2005. She is a member of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners. Karen enjoys taking walks, cooking, and spending time with family and friends.

 

 

Tera Knighton, CPNP

    Tera Knighton was born and raised in Geneva, Alabama. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and Master of Science degree in Nursing, Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, from the University of South Alabama, Mobile. During her studies, Tera worked as a Registered Nurse in the newborn nursery at Southeast Alabama Medical Center; and, a Registered Nurse at Dothan Pediatric Clinic. She has provided pediatric care as a nurse with Dothan Pediatric Clinic since 2008 and as a nurse practitioner since 2014.

    Tera is licensed as a registered nurse by the Alabama Board of Nursing and certified as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, Primary Care, by the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board. She is authorized for Advanced Practice Nursing by the Alabama Board of Nursing and approved for Collaborative Practice with Michael J. Ramsey, M.D. Tera is a Sigma Theta Tau National Honor Society member and a member of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners. Tera lives in Headland, Alabama with her husband, Brad, and their children Anna Klaire, Brady and Baylee. She enjoys going to Disney World and boating on the lake with her family.
